First off, I just want to thank everyone for their contribution to this list. Without many users within the Palm community, this list would not be possible. Thank you!

Before you start installing any software, be sure to install the latest software update for the Treo 650. Depending on your carrier, there may or not be one available. I have put together a guide to perform the update, which includes links to download the update for your device (if available).

PalmOne Help on Memory Structure for Treo 650

This list includes all the software that has been verified by other users to work on the PalmOne Tungsten T5. Because of the similarities the Treo 650 has with the T5, the same list for the T5 may or may not apply to the Treo 650. I just thought this list would be a good place to start. For those not aware, the T5 and the Treo 650 is a different beast under the hood. Because of the different architecture, many developers will have to update their software to make it work with these devices.

If you do not find the software title, it does not mean that it does not work on the Treo 650. It just means that it has not been tested by a Treo 650 user that has posted his/her experience.

To submit a title to this list, please include the four things: the title of the software, the version of the software, the Internet link for the software, and confidence level of the tests. Here is a list that defines different confidence levels:

Need: Tested and the software needs to be updated to be compatible with the Treo 650.
Low: Tested the basic functions of the software, and everything appears to be working on the Treo 650.
Medium: Tested a lot of the functionality of the software including a few difference settings and options, and everything appears to be working on the Treo 650.
High: Tested a multitude of options and scenerios that you can guarantee compability of the software with the Treo 650. Anyone can submit the information, as long as you follow the guidelines listed in the above section.

You can submit information to the list using our contact form.

I have modified the list to make it easy to see what does work (Green Light List) and what does NOT work (Red Light List). If it is on the Green Light List, the confidence level shows how extensive the software was tested on the Treo 650.

I have added a new list for requested software that people would like tested on the Treo 650.

6/27/05: Moved from "High" to "Medium" based a couple of user reports. AvantGo works just fine. Then for some unknown reason, it starts causing unknown resets. Once AvantGo is removed from the device, everything is fine. Problems usually arise the more channels you select. The lower the number of channels, the better.

9/12/2005: From motivated developer, "I was a long time user of Cryptopad on my Palm IIIc, and when I found it didn't work on my Treo 650, I took matters into my own hands. I hunted down source code for several different historical versions, and traded some emails with the original developers. I debugged the source of the crash and patched the code. Two different updated versions have been released: v3.65 and v4.10. They should be considered lightly tested. I have been using 3.65 for about 1 week with no problems. I had a friend try out 4.10, and basic testing worked for him."

1/9/05: From user, "I think your indication that the latest version of Font Bucket is working is not fully correct. It works only on low resolution fonts. For the various high resolution fonts it does not work e.g. Time New Roman. The application will cause a error message and the reset icon have to be press. By the way I am testing it on a T5 which I loaded the application to last night. To me without the high resolution fonts, this application is effectively useless."

New version. From Treo 650 user, "...works remarkably well. I had one isilo document 120megs in size (stored on an expantion card of course) and it would take a good 10 seconds or more to even open on my Palm Tungsten T3 (which has a faster processor than the treo 650) so I was wondering how long it would take to load, I was even ready with a timer to clock it and see how long it would take. It took less than two seconds!"

6/27/05: Out of beta. From user, "It is definitely worth the upgrade - it is fast and one handed navigation is improved. The developers have also corrected a minor bug that was introduced by the new way the T5 (and I presume also the T2 & LifeDrive) handles events spanning midnight. While there may be a few features I haven't yet tested, there can't be many. All that I have tested have worked fine and the application is very stable. I have found no compatibility issues with this version of the application."
2/7/05: Just released a public beta (click software title for link) for Treo 650 and Tungsten T5 users. Beta expires on April 1, 2005. From user, "I have tested both features without problem. The difference in speed is dramatic with launch & exit times reducing from anywhere from 10-30 seconds to about 1 second."
